I had the chance to play an early build of the game for about an hour, streaming via Parsec on a UK-based PC, and the experience was quite enjoyable despite some minor connection issues.The game follows Harry Hawker, a Special Operations Executive agent, who is tasked with sabotaging Nazi operations during World War II. The action takes place concurrently with Sniper Elite 5’s main campaign, adding fresh missions and challenges. The third mission I played had me tracking down a traitor who had sold out Resistance members—who, naturally, met a swift end with a bullet to the forehead.At its core, Sniper Elite: Resistance retains the classic elements that fans love, including a full campaign co-op mode, multiplayer options, and new “propaganda missions.” These optional objectives, accessed by finding posters hidden in each level, task you with completing time-sensitive challenges as a Resistance fighter. While I didn’t manage to find one during my session (thanks to some lag on my end), I’m excited to see how these will play out in the full release.Harry Hawker, voiced with a gruff tone reminiscent of Jason Statham, is a sharp-shooting agent, and the game plays similarly to the Hitman series but with a heavy focus on sniping and stealthy eliminations. Each mission offers a variety of main and optional objectives, making replayability a key feature. Players can also unlock new weapons and explore different ways to complete their goals.Graphically, Sniper Elite: Resistance holds up well, showing solid visuals that are on par with Sniper Elite 5. The game supports Xbox One, Series, and PC Play Anywhere, meaning cross-platform play is a given. As players take on the role of Harry and other Resistance fighters, the ultimate goal is to stop the Germans from obtaining a superweapon that could tip the balance of the war. The game's multiplayer also offers up to 16-player PVP, though I focused solely on the campaign during my session.The return of the Axis Invasion mode will also let you invade other players' campaigns, adding a unique challenge as you try to eliminate their Resistance fighters. And, of course, there’s the ever-present mission to kill Hitler, a recurring highlight in the series.
