Some major studies from different universities also claimed that having walnuts in your diet can enhance cognitive functions such as writing, reading, reasoning, memory, calculation, and decision-making. Walnut is considered a brain or superfood. It's popular among dieticians and health freaks. It's an edible seed that resembles the shape of the human brain. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)  claimed that it can reduce heart issues although the claim was challenged later.

Brain food has plenty of antioxidants, vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, melatonin ( aids in sleeping ), folate, and polyphenols these all support brain strength.

According to the American college health association, more than 60% of college students have one or more mental health crises.

It indicates that university students are at greater threat of mental health problems which can hamper their overall performance and career.

 

How is the study conducted?

 

In the journal Nutrients, the report was published by the University of South Australia. They conducted a clinical trial. The subject was 80 undergraduate students from the university. These students were divided into two groups first treatment and second control group.

The treatment group which consists of 40 students got walnuts to ingest every day. Both groups were evaluated in three intervals at the beginning of the university semester, during the examination phase, and after the examination.

The result was astonishing as those students who had walnuts in their diets had better mental health, sleep was improved, and the metabolic rate was also promising. On the other hand, those who do not have walnuts in their diet felt more pressure, stress, and anxiety during the Examination phase.

Prof. Larisa Bobrovsky illustrated that there's strong evidence which says that liking walnuts will result in better mental and gut health.

Although we have to maintain that the study may be falsified as there are more studies needed to clarify that it was not a placebo effect because it was not a blind examination. The study has fewer males which means we need more studies to analyse the sex-based effect of walnuts. Do walnuts have a different effect on males and females?

To sum up, we can say that it's a groundbreaking study to enhance our mental health with brain food, Although we need more research and evidence to support the full potential of the study. We cannot deny that study may be hampered because of the placebo effect as participants  were aware that the study of walnuts and mental health going on, it was not blind test.
